EU-Projekt Epigenetik

Die Forschung des Europäischen Exzellenzcluster SYSCID fokussiert auf epigenetische Ursachen von chronischen Entzündungen. Die Europäischen Kommission fördert das Projekt über fünf Jahre mit rund 14,4 Millionen Euro unterstützt, davon fließen 1,2 Millionen Euro an den Lehrstuhl Epigenetik (Prof. Jörn Walter) an die Universität des Saarlandes.



Der SFB 1027 „Physikalische Modellierung von Nichtgleichgewichts-Prozessen in biologischen Systemen” ist um weitere vier Jahre bis Ende 2020 verlängert worden und wird von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) mit zehn Millionen Euro gefördert.



Deutsche Epigenomforscher präsentieren die ersten Epigenom-Kataloge primärer menschlicher Zellen, wobei Saarbrücker Wissenschaftler an sechs Publikationen maßgeblich beteiligt sind. Das von deutscher Seite federführende Deutsche Epigenom-Programm (DEEP) leitet der Saarbrücker Genetik-Professor Jörn Walter.

Französisches Forschungsministerium fördert ZHMB-Doktorandin

Jedes Jahr fördert der französische Staat zehn herausragende Nachwuchsforscher aus unterschiedlichen Bereichen. In diesem Jahr hat das französische Bildungs- und Forschungsministerium eine dreijährige Förderung an unsere Promotion-Studierende Vanessa Dacleu-Siewe vergeben. Sie untersucht im Rahmen des deutsch-französischen Master/PhD-Programms die molekulare Ursachen des Muskelschwunds. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!


IGEM Competition

Insgesamt 245 Studententeams aus aller Welt werden bei der „International Genetically Engineered Machines Competition“ (IGEM) am Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston antreten. Die UdS nimmt mit einem Team des ZHMB zum ersten mal an diesem Wettbewerb teil. Unsere zwölf Studierenden beschäftigen sich in ihrem Projekt mit der heterologen Expression von Nacktmull-Hyaluronsäure zur Krebs-Therapie.


Kunststoff durch Biotechnologie

In einem neuartigen Ansatz arbeiten die Forscher um Prof. Christoph Wittmann (ZHMB-Lehrstuhl für Systembiotechnologie) daran, Nylon mittels biotechnologischer Methoden zu produzieren. Das Vorhaben wird vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung für drei Jahre mit 1,4 Millionen Euro gefördert.



Die Humangenetiker um ZHMB-Prof. Eckart Meese haben gemeinsam mit nationalen und internationalen Kooperationspartnern einen neuartigen Bluttest zur Alzheimer-Diagnose auf Basis von microRNA als Biomarker entwickelt.


CHE-Ranking 2012

Die Ergebnisse des aktuellen CHE-Rankings 2012 wurden veröffentlicht. Die Biologie an der Universität des Saarlandes konnte mit Bestbewertungen ihrer Studierenden punkten. Sowohl die Studiensituation insgesamt als auch die Betreuung und Studierbarkeit erhielten Bestnoten. Bei der Bewertung der internationalen Ausrichtung erzielte das ZHMB sogar die höchste Punktzahl und kam damit in die Spitzengruppe, zu der nur drei Universitäten bundesweit zählen.


Bundessieg beim Land der Ideen

Das Forschungsprojekt "Bäckerhefe erhöht die Erfolgsquote bei Impfungen" setzt sich beim Wettbewerb "365 Orte im Land der Ideen" gegen alle Konkurrenten durch. Wir gratulieren den ZHMB-Dozenten Prof. M.J.Schmitt und Dr. F. Breinig von der AG Molekular- und Zellbiologie zum Bundessieg in der Kategorie Wissenschaft!


Epigenom-Programm DEEP

Am 1. September beginnt mit dem Start des Epigenomprogramms DEEP eine neue ära der Genomforschung in Deutschland. Forschergruppen aus ganz Deutschland werden 70 Epigenome menschlicher Zelltypen entschlüsseln. Da BMBF stellt in den kommenden fünf Jahren 16 Millionen Euro zur Verfügung. 5,5 Millionen Euro flie&szig;en an saarländische Projektpartner nach Saarbrücken. Das Programm wird von Professor Jörn Walter koordiniert.



Aus gentechnisch veränderten Hefen einen Impfstoff zu gewinnen, könnte zu einer ganz neuen Methode der Krankheitsvorbeugung werden. Die Arbeitsgruppe Molekular- und Zellbiologie stellt ihre Erkenntnisse im ARD-Mittagsmagazin vor.


Das "Deutsche Epigenom-Programm" gewann eine millionenschwere Ausschreibung des Bundesforschungs-ministeriums, sein Koordinator ist das ZHMB-Ratsmitglied Professor Jörn Walter. Er steuert die Arbeit von bundesweit 21 Forschergruppen, die Anträge mit einem Volumen von rund 16 Millionen Euro eingereicht haben.



Forscher um das ZHMB-Ratsmitglied Professor Eckart Meese, von der Uni Tübingen und der Europäischen Akademie Bozen sind dabei, die Krankengeschichte von "Ötzi" aufzuarbeiten. Auch 5300 Jahre nach dessen Tod lassen sich aus dem Erbgut der Gletschermumie noch wichtige Erkenntnisse über sein Leben in der Steinzeit gewinnen. Möglich machen das neue Verfahren der Genanalytik, die erstmals an einem so alten Leichnam eingesetzt wurden.


Land der Idee - Bundessieg

Im Rahmen eines für den Bundessieg bei "Deutschland - Land der Ideen" nominierten Projekts gehen Dr. Frank Breinig und Prof. Manfred Schmitt neue Wege bei Impfstoffen, die sie auf Basis von Hefezellen entwickeln. Die Initiative der Bundesregierung und der bundesdeutschen Wirtschaft will zeigen, welcher Einfallsreichtum und welches visionäre Denken in Deutschland zu finden ist. Das ZHMB gratuliert herzlich.
